Welcome to Hucclecote Rugby Football Club! We welcome members and non-members, and encourage you all to have a good look around to discover the facilities we offer and what events are upcoming.
We were formed in 1970, after a meeting involving our founder members notably Frank Jordan, Reg Bowkett, Tony Wainwright, Vic Lott, Ken Richards, to name but a few, Tony is still involved with the club after 45 years.
We have been a bit of a nomadic team over our 40 + years of existence, starting off changing and playing at the Hucclecote Secondary modern school for several years, since those heady days we have used The Pineholt club, The Hucclecote community Centre, The Wagon &Horses, The Royal Oak to socialise in while playing on the school fields, Pineholt (the best pitch by far), King George V playing fields, Plock court, so a bit of a nomadic existence for such a young Club.
Starting as Hucclecote Old boys and several playing fields later, we at last have a permanent home in Hucclecote when our clubhouse was finally opened 15 years ago with the help of a lottery grant. This took the best part of 25 years negotiations with huge efforts from Charlie Matthews, Tony Wainwright, Peter Norwood, Len Taylor, Alan Long etc. The lottery funding meant we had to rename as Hucclecote RFC but the old boys are still there lurking the back ground!
Over the years we have produced several notable players who have gone on the great things British Lions, England colts caps, Welsh senior, Welsh U 21 and senior Sevens squad, Gloucester, Harlequins, Cinderford, Cheltenham, we are proud of them all.
We now run mini and junior section from under 6’s to under 17’s which in a few years could yield the next generation of Hucclecote players we Have had fathers and sons in the same side maybe a grandson to play soon. On one tour we had 6 sets of brothers playing.
We hope to be seen as a family club which plays well on the field.
